Two of the Top Five Meet in La Liga

We have a full round of fixtures to enjoy in Spain this week and arguably the biggest of the ten matches takes place at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid host Valencia.

The title is out of reach for Atlético Madrid, despite enjoying another good campaign but they will want to guarantee second place with a win. Valencia are in fifth place but a win could see them move into the top four and a Champions League place is now the ambition until the end of the season.

Atlético Madrid continued their pursuit of Barcelona on the weekend with a 1-0 win at Eibar.  They are unlikely to catch the Catalan giants but will want to finish above Real Madrid this season.  Trends show Atlético Madrid have won four of their last five games in La Liga, with the only defeat coming at the hands of Barcelona.

They have lost only seven of their last forty-nine games in all competitions and are very tough to beat when at their best. Home form is good and Atlético Madrid have won each of their last five matches in all competitions at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Atlético Madrid have scored 2 goals in four of those five games and have kept a clean sheet in all five matches. They will be hoping to keep another clean sheet in this one and make it twelve clean sheets from their fourteen home games in all competitions.

Valencia are on course to finish in the top four this season if the they can maintain their current form. They have won each of their last four matches, with the most recent win coming at Real Betis in La Liga on the weekend. Prior to that they defeated Levante at home in La Liga and beat Villarreal both home and away in the Europa League quarter-final.

Trends show Valencia are undefeated in twenty-seven of their last thirty-one La Liga games and have won ten of their last thirteen in all competitions. They have lost one of their last ten away matches in all competitions and have won four of their last six on the road. There have been four wins, two draws and one defeat in their last seven away La Liga games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Atlético Madrid are without the injured duo of Lucas Hernandez and Jose Gimenez in defence. Diego Costa is suspended but Antoine Griezmann returns and should join Alvaro Morata in attack.

Valencia are without Rodrigo Moreno who is suspended following a red card at the weekend.  Denis Cheryshev and Geoffrey Kondogbia are injured and there are doubts over the fitness of Cristiano Piccini and Jaume Doménech.

Both teams will be feeling good about their chances heading into this game but Atlético Madrid are very strong at home and should win this game, even if it is only by a single goal margin.
