Things Don’t Get Any Easier for West Ham with Visit of Leicester

We are getting to the stage of the Premier League season where for some teams, there is usually little left to play for in terms of success.

However, West Ham United and Leicester City meet on Saturday knowing that they could still claim a place in the UEFA Europa League next season.

West Ham begin the game in 11th place on 42 points while Leicester are in 7th place on 47 points. Therefore, this match is crucial for both teams and a win for either will have big consequences for last few games of the season.

The hosts have been struggling to pick up wins in recent games and they have faced a tough fixture list.  The Hammers have won only one of their last five in the Premier League but when you take a look at the level of their opponents, it is easy to see why.

West Ham have played Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United in their last three games and lost them all.  However, they also tasted defeat at Cardiff City, which was a very disappointing result.

The one shining light for West Ham ahead of this game is their home form and trends show they have won five of their last seven at home in all competitions and lost only one of their last eight at the London Stadium.

Leicester City suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Newcastle United last weekend in what was a poor performance.  That was a game the Foxes were expected to win; especially given their recent form and they will be keen to get back to winning ways at West Ham.

Trends show Leicester City won four Premier League games in a row prior to the defeat to Newcastle and during that run they beat Fulham and Bournemouth at home plus Burnley and Huddersfield Town away.

Leicester have been involved in some exciting matches recently and have seen both teams score in each of their last seven away games in all competitions.  They have also seen over 2.5 goals in seven of their last nine matches and the Foxes are proving very entertaining to watch towards the end of the season.

Looking ahead to the team news and West Ham have been plagued by injuries for much of the season.  Carlos Sanchez, Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll will definitely miss out due to injury.  Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautovic and Samir Nasri are also unlikely to feature.

Leicester have just one man unavailable with Daniel Amartey the player on the treatment table.  Jamie Vardy will continue up-front despite failing to score at home against Newcastle last time out.

West Ham have been good on home soil at times this season but Leicester have improved under Brendan Rodgers.  The Foxes could hit the hosts where it hurts on the break to score the goals to win the match.
