Unsettled Bayern in Must Win Match

Unsettled Bayern in Must Win Match

Bayern Munich make the trip to Hertha Berlin on Sunday afternoon in the Bundesliga reeling from two big events over the past few days.

Firstly, they lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.  This was always going to be a tough match for Bayern Munich, especially given the outlay by their opponents in the summer and the fact the Bundesliga champions were without Manuel Neuer in goal.

However, no one expected them to be defeated quite so convincingly and this led to the second big event of the week as Carlo Ancelotti was relieved of his duties as manager of the Bavarian giants.  Willy Sagnol will take charge of the team for this match.

This could play nicely into the hands of Hertha Berlin, who are looking for their first win in three games having tasted defeat at Mainz in the Bundesliga and Ostersunds in the Europa League.

Despite those two recent defeats it has not been a bad start to the campaign for Hertha Berlin who start the weekend sitting in eighth place in the Bundesliga table.

Having suffered a difficult end to the season at home in 2016/17, trends show Hertha Berlin are undefeated in their three home league games this season, picking up two wins and one draw.  They have scored five goals and conceded two.

Bayern Munich have failed to win their last two matches having been held at home to Wolfsburg and beaten convincingly in Paris.

The nature of both performances was what concerned many at the club and to allow Wolfsburg back into the match at the Allianz Arena having taken a 2-0 lead before half-time was very poor.

However, trends show Bayern Munich have lost only two of their last twenty-nine Bundesliga games and have won eight of their last ten.  So, while the current form may be of crisis level for a club like Bayern Munich, they must still be regarded as the strongest club in Germany.

Bayern Munich are undefeated in thirteen of their last fifteen away Bundesliga games and have won four of their last five on the road.  Their only defeat in that run of five games came at Hoffenheim on the 9th September.

Looking towards the team news and Hertha Berlin are without Vedad Ibisevic who is suspended for this game.  There is also a doubt over Julius Kade but Julian Schieber and Davie Selke should be fit to start the match.

Bayern Munich are without Manuel Neuer, who is proving to be a big loss for the team. Juan Bernat will also miss this match through injury but otherwise they should be at full strength in the outfield positions.

This is going to be a difficult game for Bayern Munich given the circumstances surrounding their own club and the recent home form of Hertha Berlin.  The host will surely try and test the goal keeper as much as possible and could get a point out of this match, with both teams scoring.
