Trends Points Towards High-Scoring Clash Between Newcastle and Spurs

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off sees two teams with European aspirations attempt to strengthen their prospects at St. James’ Park.

Sitting eighth in the table, Newcastle United host fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who sit inside the Champions League spots on goal difference.

Can Ange Postecoglou’s side enhance their Champions League hopes? Or will the Magpies move closer to the European places? Read on to discover what Forebet’s algorithm predicts.

Newcastle claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Fulham last weekend, with Bruno Guimaraes scoring the only goal of the game in the 81st minute.

As a result, Eddie Howe’s men have lost just one of their last five Premier League matches, with two defeats coming in their previous 10 encounters.

The Magpies have been especially strong at St. James’ Park in recent times, losing only two of their last 14 home games in the Premier League.

It is also worth noting that Newcastle have seen over 2.5 goals in 11 of their 16 home league games this season, with eight of those clashes serving up over 3.5 goals.

Meanwhile, Tottenham secured an easy 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out, racking up 64% possession and 17 shots on home soil.

Spurs have now won four of their last six matches, suffering a solitary defeat, with two losses coming in their previous 12 Premier League encounters.

That said, Postecoglou’s side have struggled for consistency on the road, recording two wins, four draws and three defeats in their last nine away league outings.

Given that 11 of their 15 away league games have produced over 2.5 goals, Tottenham look set to be involved in another high-scoring clash this weekend.

Head-to-head: Tottenham won the reverse fixture 4-1 back in December, meaning they have avoided defeat in six of their last eight meetings with Newcastle.

Those eight matches produced a whopping 36 goals (4.5 goals per game), so we should be treated to another eventful showdown on Saturday.

Team news: Newcastle’s extensive injury list features Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley, Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Tino Livramento, Nike Pope, Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier.

On the flip side, Tottenham are currently without Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Fraser Forster, while Richarlison is a doubt for this weekend.

If recent meetings between these two sides are anything to go by, Saturday’s clash will be a high-scoring affair with goals at both ends.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle and Tottenham will combine for over 3.5 goals, with the visitors outscoring the hosts to claim all three points.
