The 2023/24 Supercoppa Italiana is contested by four teams and one of the two semi-finals to be played is between Napoli and Fiorentina.
The match will be played at the King Saud University Stadium in Saudi Arabia on the 18th of January. Napoli qualified for this competition by winning Serie A last season and Fiorentina are involved as they were the 2022/23 Coppa Italia runners-up.
Napoli come into the match on the back of a 2-1 home win over Salernitana in Serie A on the weekend. It was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 29th minute and it looked like being another disappointing game for the Napoli fans.
However, Napoli struck back from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time and scored the dramatic winning goal in the 96th minute.
The victory over Salernitana was the first win in 5 fixtures in all competitions for Napoli. There have been defeats away to Roma and Torino in Serie A plus a shock 4-0 loss at home against Frosinone in the Coppa Italia. Napoli did manage to pick up a point in Serie A thanks to a 0-0 draw at home with Monza, a match Napoli were hoping to win.
This will be the fourth appearance in the Supercoppa Italiana for Napoli. They have won only 1 of their previous 3 Supercoppa games, which was a penalty shootout success over Juventus in 2014. There was also an extra-time defeat to Juventus in 2012 and a 2-0 loss against Juventus in 2021.
Fiorentina make the trip to Saudi Arabia having been held to a 2-2 draw at home by Udinese in Serie A on the weekend.
Udinese led 1-0 at half time but Fiorentina scored the equaliser in the 55th minute. Udinese got back in-front in the 73rd minute and Fiorentina needed an 87th minute equaliser to take a point.
The draw with Udinese means Fiorentina are undefeated in 10 of their 11 most recent fixtures in all competitions. There have been wins over Salernitana, Verona, and Torino at home plus Monza away in Serie A.
Fiorentina have also beat Genk at home in the Europa Conference League plus Bologna and Parma at home via penalties in the Coppa Italia.
This will be the third appearance for Fiorentina in the Supercoppa Italiana, having previously beat AC Milan in 1996 and lost to Roma in 2001.
Team news and Napoli are without Victor Osimhen and Andre Zambo Anguissa who are playing in the Africa Cup of Nations. Alex Meret, Natan Souza, and Mathías Olivera are injured.
Fiorentina have one player on international duty, with Christian Kouamé selected to play for Ivory Coast. Nicolas Gonzalez, Dodo, and Gaetano Castrovilli are injured.
Fiorentina are the form team coming into this match but Napoli will be lifted by their last minute victory in Serie A on the weekend.
