On Wednesday evening, Morocco and Tanzania go head-to-head in their Group F opener of the African Cup of Nations.

Morocco

The Atlas Lions will be confident of opening their campaign with a win after a decent recent run, having gone five games without a defeat, recording four wins and a draw.

Walid Regragui’s team has also recorded three straight international wins over Liberia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone while scoring at least twice in both wins.

They made it to the quarter-finals of the last African Cup of Nations, eventually suffering an extra-time defeat against Egypt in the previous eight.

Morocco is unbeaten in nine games over 90 minutes in the competition, though, having claimed six victories in the decent run.

The North African team has also been relatively prolific of late in the competition, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four games at the AFCON.

Tanzania

Adel Amrouche’s team has suffered two straight 2-0 defeats against Wednesday’s opponents and Egypt. The results mean that Tanzania has now won just one of their last five international games.

The two latest games followed a low-scoring pattern for Tanzania’s recent outings, as their previous eight international games have now all produced under 2.5 goals.

The recent history of this fixture really doesn’t bode well for Tanzania, as they have faced Morocco just five times, having suffered defeat on five occasions.

This will be only Tanzania’s second African Cup of Nations, with their only previous appearances coming in the 2019 edition of the competition.

Unfortunately, they lost all three of their games against Senegal, Kenya and Algeria, scoring just twice and conceding at least two goals in each game.
