Tunisia and Namibia to kick off AFCON Group E
4251

Africa Cup of Nations Group E will get underway on Tuesday. The group’s heavy-hitter Tunisia will begin their tournament in Korhogo against Namibia.

Namibia is one of the long-shots at the AFCON tournament. They will begin the competition at odds of 21.00 to win it.

Meanwhile, Tunisia have the more modest odds of 15.00 to win the AFCON tournament.

Tunisia won the tournament one time previously all the way back in 2004. They finished second on two other occasions.

Namibia qualified for the AFCON three times previously, but they have never qualified for the knockout stages.

Moreover, the Brave Warriors have never won a group stage match at the AFCON. Can they defeat one of Africa’s time sides?

These teams played just one time dating back to 2007. Tunisia won that previous fixture by a score of 2-0.

Despite holding a previous win over Namibia, the game was played so long ago that no trend can be taken from it.

Tunisia will start the AFCON in good form. They went unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, defeating Sao Tome and Principe, Malawi, and Cape Verde, while drawing with Mauritania. Tunisia did not concede a goal in any of the four games.

Of course, Tunisia will face off with far more difficult competition at the AFCON than in their previous four games. In addition to Namibia being in Group E, Tunisia will face Mali and South Africa.

Namibia went unbeaten in their last two matches in all competitions. A 2-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe was followed by a nil-nil draw with Ghana.

The draw with Ghana was a surprise, as the Black Stars are considered one of the top international teams in Africa.

Namibia’s squad is primarily based in leagues across Africa. Just four players ply their trades in football leagues in Europe.

Tunisia’s squad is a little more spread out across North Africa and Europe. There is far more quality in the Eagles of Carthage squad. However, captain and top goalscorer, Youssef Msakni, plays in Qatar for Al Arabi.

Msakni has 22 international goals in 98 appearances for Tunisia. Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri was left out of the squad for the tournament. He joined Birmingham City on loan this month.

Tunisia did not concede a goal in their last four matches. The team’s defence should once again keep a clean sheet against Namibia. It should be a close match, with the Eagles of Carthage pulling out a 1-0 victory.
