Luton Town will aim to end a three-match losing streak in the Premier League on Saturday when Newcastle United arrive at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
Newcastle will aim for a second straight Premier League win after downing Fulham 3-0 a week ago. The win over Fulham ended a two-game losing streak for the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s team suffered a defeat in midweek in the EFL Cup. Newcastle lost on penalties to Chelsea after drawing 1-1 at 90 minutes.
Howe has now watched his team crash out of the Champions League and the EFL Cup.
Newcastle are sixth in the league. They took just nine points from the last six matches in the league. The Magpies were outscored 10-9 by their last six opponents.
Luton Town are 18th in the standings. Five points separate the Hatters from relegation safety. They took just four points from the last six matches in the Premier League.
Despite some impressive home performances against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, Luton Town have simply struggled to take maximum points at Kenilworth Road.
Luton took just five points from eight games at home. They conceded 14 times playing on their home turf.
These teams last met five seasons ago in the FA Cup. There is no recent trend in head-to-head matches between the clubs.
Newcastle United are not the team they were last season. The Magpies are struggling on the road, where they picked up a mere five points in eight matches.
The team’s defence has been poor on the road, conceding 17 goals.
Luton’s recent matches were high scoring, with each of the last four games finishing with over 2.5 goals.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United saw more than 2.5 goals in their last three league games.
Luton’s Reece Burke is ruled out of the game with a thigh injury. Dan Potts will also miss the match thanks to a thigh injury.
Cauley Woodrow should return from a calf injury to make the squad. Marvelous Nakamba will be suspended.
Howe continues to have a long list of injured players. Goalkeeper Nick Pope remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes will both sit out the fixture.
Joe Willock will join them on the sidelines with a calf injury. Elliot Anderson will miss out with a back injury. Fabian Schar, Joelinton, and Matt Targett are all ruled out as well.
Despite the injury issues, Newcastle should post a win away at Luton Town. The Hatters’ poor record this season should see them lose once more. Newcastle should claim a narrow 2-1 win.
