On Tuesday night, Atletico Madrid and Celtic go head-to-head at the Civitas Metropolitano in a potentially crucial encounter in Group E of the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid

A surprise 2-1 defeat at Las Palmas in their last outing ended a nine-game unbeaten run for Diego Simeone’s team in all competitions. The game also ended a prolific scoring run of form, as Los Colchoneros had scored at least two goals in their previous eight games.

When it comes to the Champions League, Atletico are currently in second place in Group E, the team from the Spanish top-flight is unbeaten, having recorded a win and two draws.

A victory in this clash would go a long way to seeing the men from Madrid book their place in the competition's knockout stages.

Although Atletico have been difficult to beat of late in the Champions League, losing one of their last six games in the competition, they have also claimed just one victory in their previous eight Champions League games.

Celtic

The Hoops head into this clash on the back of a decent recent run of form, as Brendan Rodgers's team is unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions. Last time out, they recorded a 3-0 win over Ross County.

Despite their recent decent form, if results go against the Scottish champions in gameweek four, they could exit the competition after the current round of fixtures.

A 2-2 draw against Tuesday’s opponents in their last game in European football’s elite competition ended a three-game losing streak. However, it extended Celtic’s recent winless run in the Champions League to 12 games.

The visitors are also winless in their last six away games in the competition, having suffered three straight away defeats.
