England know that a victory over Italy at Wembley on Tuesday will see them punch their ticket to next summer’s European Championship in Germany.
With three qualifiers remaining, unbeaten England find themselves atop Group C – three points clear of Italy and Ukraine.
Victory for the Three Lions would assure them of a place at Euro 2024, but a win for the Italians would move them level on points with Gareth Southgate’s side.
England head into Tuesday’s showdown on the back of two friendly victories, having defeated Scotland 3-1 last month before beating Australia 1-0 on Friday.
As a result, the Three Lions are currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, with six wins and one draw coming in that sequence.
Southgate’s men have won four and drawn one of their five Euro 2024 qualifiers, scoring a whopping 16 goals (3.2 goal per game) while conceding just twice.
Let’s not forget that England also claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Italy in Napoli in the reverse fixture back in March.
As for the Italians, they claimed an easy 4-0 win against Malta on Saturday, racking up 67% possession and 18 shots against the Group C minnows.
The Azzurri have now taken 10 points from a possible 15 during Euro 2024 qualifying, scoring 10 goals while conceding on four occasions.
That said, following a couple of Nations League defeats back in June, Italy have only managed to win two of their previous five outings across all competitions.
It is also worth noting that Italy have kept a solitary clean sheet in their last five matches, suggesting that England’s attackers will enjoy plenty of success on Tuesday.
Head-to-head: England ended a six-game winless run against Italy when they claimed a 2-1 victory in Naples back in March.
When you look at the bigger picture, the Three Lions have managed to win just two of their last 12 meetings with the Azzurri, losing the previous European Championship final on penalties.
Team news: Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Jordan Pickford are all set to start for England after remaining on the bench against Australia last time out.
On the flip side, Domenico Berardi should keep his place in Italy’s starting XI after bagging a brace against Malta, joining Giacomo Raspadori and Moise Keane in the forward line.
England will be expected to claim all three points on home soil, but Italy have more than enough quality to frustrate the Three Lions.
Accordingly, Forebet predicts that England and Italy will play out a low-scoring draw at Wembley, with both teams netting under 1.5 goals.
