An unbeaten Liverpool will host West Ham on Sunday at Anfield in the Premier League. The Reds took 13 points from the opening 15 points on offer and sit third in the standings.
Liverpool go into matchday No. 6 just two points behind Manchester City and could go top of the table with a win and results going their way elsewhere.
West Ham are sixth in the standings, with 10 points from 15 points on offer. David Moyes’ team has kicked on from winning the Conference League last season.
However, the Hammers are coming off a 3-1 loss at home to Man City last weekend.
The Hammers’ loss to City ended a four-match unbeaten run to start the campaign.
The team should have plenty of confidence going to Anfield. Liverpool have struggled at times this season thanks to slow starts.
On three occasions, Liverpool had to come from behind to post wins. Although the Reds are in the title race in the early stages of the season, there is some fragility about them.
Both Liverpool and West Ham are in action on Thursday night in the Europa League and Conference League, respectively. It will be a quick turnaround for both clubs, playing at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Liverpool won their last three games at Anfield against West Ham.
The Hammers were outscored 5-2 across the three fixtures. Last season, Liverpool did the domestic double over West Ham by a count of 3-1.
Despite their fragility, Liverpool conceded only four goals in their opening five games.
Against Wolverhampton a week ago, the Reds should have been double two or three goals by halftime. The squad struggled with fatigue following the international break.
Liverpool are a perfect six points from six at Anfield this season, with six goals scored and one conceded.
West Ham took seven points from nine on offer away from home to kick off the campaign. They outscored their three road opponents 6-3.
Virgil van Dijk will serve a suspension once more, meaning any combination of Joel Matip, Jarell Quansah, and Ibrahima Konate will play in central defence.
Meanwhile, Joe Gomez will likely start at right-back due to a thigh injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold is a major doubt to play.
Thiago Alcantara continues to rehab a groin injury from last season. Mohamed Salah is in fine form with four assists and two goals this season.
Moyes has just one injury issue, as Edson Alvarez will return from a fitness problem. He should make the matchday squad, however.
Liverpool should edge West Ham at Anfield. Even if they start poorly at home, the atmosphere at Anfield should help them overcome the Hammers. Salah should play a big role once more.
