New-look Bournemouth ready to frustrate Liverpool at Anfield
4135

Having both registered a draw on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, Liverpool and Bournemouth face off at Anfield on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last time out, while the Cherries drew 1-1 with West Ham United.

As a result, both sides find themselves on one point after the opening round of fixtures. Can either team pick up their first win of the campaign this weekend?

Despite seeing just 35% possession while managing a solitary attempt on target, Liverpool ended up leaving Stamford Bridge with a point.

Luis Diaz put the Reds in front on 18 minutes before Axel Disasi equalised before half time, although neither side managed to find a winner after the break.

Liverpool endured a below-par 2022-23 campaign, finishing four points outside the Champions League places following a slow start to the season.

Thanks to a strong end to the previous campaign, however, Klopp’s men are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League matches.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, picked up a point against West Ham on the opening weekend, with Dominic Solanke equalising in the 82nd minute.

The Cherries racked up 63% possession and 14 shots at the Vitality Stadium, but the Hammers deserved to draw after registering 16 attempts.

Despite guiding the club to safety last term, Gary O’Neil was relieved of his duties as Bournemouth manager, with Andoni Iraola coming in as his successor.

Having made a name for himself in Spain with Rayo Vallecano, Iraola will now be determined to make an impact in England with Bournemouth.

Head-to-head: Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield last term, but the Cherries gained their revenge with a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

When you look at the bigger picture, Liverpool have won seven of their previous eight league meetings with Bournemouth, scoring over 2.5 goals on six occasions while keeping six clean sheets.

Team news: Liverpool have a couple of injury doubts at the moment, with Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic expected to miss Saturday’s clash.

Bournemouth are also without a number of injured players, including Dango Outtara, Marcus Tavernier, Alex Scott, Lewis Cook, Adam Smith and Ryan Fredericks.

Although Bournemouth claimed a rare victory over Liverpool last time around, the Cherries will struggle to claim all three points this weekend.

That said, Forebet predicts that Bournemouth will frustrate Liverpool at Anfield, with the two sides expected to serve up a high-scoring draw.
