Champions League winners Manchester City and Europa League victors Sevilla will contest the 2023 UEFA Super Cup at Olympiacos’ Karaiskakis Stadium on Wednesday.

Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul back in June to clinch their first-ever Champions League triumph.

Meanwhile, Sevilla defeated Roma on penalties to win last season’s Europa League, claiming their seventh Europa League title and their fifth in 10 years.

After losing to Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield, Man City kicked off their Premier League campaign with an easy 3-0 victory over Burnley last time out.

Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland bagged a first-half brace against the newly-promoted side, while Rodri completed the scoring after the break.

Pep Guardiola’s men enjoyed a magical Champions League run last term, going unbeaten in 13 matches while scoring 32 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Having tasted European glory last season, Man City will be determined to add the UEFA Super Cup trophy to their silverware cabinet.

As for Sevilla, they booked their place in the Super Cup by winning the Europa League once again last season, notching a fifth triumph in 10 years.

As a result, the Spanish side have featured in four of the previous nine Super Cups, although they have lost on each occasion.

Sevilla also lost their opening match of the new La Liga season, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Valencia last time out, with Loic Bade seeing red late on.

Consequently, Sevilla have managed to win just one of their previous seven games inside 90 minutes, including pre-season friendlies.

Head-to-head: Funnily enough, Man City and Sevilla faced each other in last season’s Champions League group stage, with Guardiola’s side notching a 7-1 aggregate victory over the two meetings.

Manchester City and Sevilla have met four times over the years, with City scoring 11 goals and conceding three across four wins.

Team news: Man City will be without injured midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on Wednesday, while Ruben Dias and John Stones are doubts.

On the flip side, Sevilla are currently without the injured trio of Marcao, Tanguy Nianzou and Alfonso Pastor Vacas.

Manchester City and Sevilla will both be eager to get their hands on the trophy in Greece, meaning we should be treated to an eventful encounter on Wednesday.

Forebet predicts that Manchester City and Sevilla will play out a high-scoring draw in normal time, with the showdown expected to go the distance.
