Marseille Should Beat Panathinaikos in Leg 2 of the Final UCL Qualifiers
3165

Marseille are aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round against Panathinaikos with the Ligue 1 side also running out 2-1 winners in their first domestic game of the season.

Marseille were terrible in their first game against Panathinaikos, as Bernard scored in the 83rd minute of the game.

The club would go on to have just one shot on target from four efforts that day, as they also secured just 32% of the ball.

Worse yet, Geoffrey Kondogbia was sent off on his competitive debut for Marseille in that match and he is now suspended for this match.

He did return and played 90 minutes at home against Reims in the first Ligue 1 weekend of the season, as Marseille secured a 2-1 win.

Azzedine Ounahi scored a goal in the first 23 minutes for Marseille in that game, as Vitinha scored the winning goal in a comeback win for them.

Iliman Ndiaye started that game in what was his debut for the club, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also got minutes off the bench alongside new signing Ismaila Sarr.

Marseille would beat Nimes and RKC Waalwijk during preseason with them also losing to Eupen and Bayer Leverkusen.

As for Panathinaikos, they are yet to kick off their Super League Greece season for the 2023/24 season with them finishing second in the last outing by five points behind AEK Athens.

In total, Panathinaikos scored just 47 goals throughout the season,  which was the second fewest amount in the Championship play-off side of things.

They did, however, have the best defensive record with only 16 goals let in.

The club are heading into this one with a two-legged victory over Dnipro-1 in the second qualifying round.

Andraz Sporar scored after 10 minutes in the first leg before a finish from Filip Duricic and a penalty from Fotis Ioannidis.

The Greek side did go on to draw the second leg 2-2 with a goal in either half from Sporar.

They managed to take the lead and come back to draw 2-2 in that match with a total of five shots on target.

During preseason, Panathinaikos played seven games, beating the likes of Petrolil, Wiener Viktoria, CSKA 1948, Rogaska and AEK Larnaca, losing to Rayo Vallecano and drawing with Hapoel Beer-Sheva.

Forebet predicts a win for Marseille here and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
