It’s second against second bottom in the League of Ireland Premier Division on Friday as high-flying St Patrick’s Dublin host struggling Cork City.

St Patrick’s Dublin find themselves four points shy of table-topping Shamrock Rovers and two points clear of third-placed Derry City.

At the opposite end of the table, Cork City lead bottom club UCD by 13 points, while eighth-placed Drogheda United sit two points above City.

St Patrick’s Dublin head into Friday’s showdown on the back of a massive 7-0 victory over UCD, with Thomas Lonergan bagging a brace in the rout.

Not only did the Saints rack up 69% possession and 22 shots – 12 of which were on target – but they also limited UCD to a solitary shot throughout the match.

St Patrick’s Dublin have now lost just one of their last eight League of Ireland Premier Division games, picking up six wins and one draw along the way.

Better still, the Dublin outfit have won each of their previous five home league outings, scoring a combined total of 17 goals while conceding just twice.

On the flip side, Cork City have managed to win just six of their 22 League of Ireland Premier Division encounters this term, recording four draws and 12 losses.

It is also worth noting that Cork City possess the second-worst defensive record in the division, having conceded 39 goals in 2023.

City enter Friday’s clash on a three-game winless run, with back-to-back defeats against Dundalk and Derry City preceding a 1-1 draw with Drogheda United.

Not only have Cork City lost six of their last seven away league games, but they have also managed to win just one of their 10 away league outings this season.

Head-to-head: St Patrick’s Dublin have already defeated Cork City twice this season, winning 4-0 on home soil before claiming a 3-2 away victory back in May.

When you look at the bigger picture, Cork City have failed to win any of their previous nine league meetings with the Saints, suffering six defeats in the process.

Team news: St Patrick’s Dublin look set to be without the injured trio of Danny Rogers, Joe Redmond and Tom Grivosti for the foreseeable future.

Cork City also have three injury absentees at the moment, with Albin Winbo, Darragh Crowley and Ethon Varian set to miss Friday’s clash.

When you couple the 20-point gulf between these two sides with Cork City’s poor recent record against St Patrick’s Dublin, all the signs point towards a home win.

Forebet predicts that St Patrick’s Dublin will claim a comfortable victory over Cork City, with the hosts expected to score over 2.5 goals.
