Montreal and Nashville are set to clash in a huge game in the Major League Soccer midweek games with the Music aiming to close the gap on Cincinnati in first place of the Eastern Conference after a sensational win over St. Louis City.
After a win over St. Louis, Nashville have now claimed arguably their best win of the season by defeating the leaders of the Western Conference.
It also moved them above New England Revolution in the table and into second with the club still boasting of the best defence in the league.
They have now let in just 13 goals from 18 games and no side comes close to this record in the top tier of North American football. Hany Mukhtar was the hero last time out against St. Louis as he netted another hat-trick to bring him onto 13 goals so far.
The German is now the highest-scoring man in MLS once more after claiming the top scorer award in the 2022 season.
Nashville are still adrift of Cincinnati by five points in the race to get to the top of the Eastern Conference and the top of the Supporters’ Shield. Worse yet, Cincinnati also have a game in hand on them and could extend this lead to eight points.
The recent win for Nashville was also its eighth in the past 10 games with them only dropping points in draws against Toronto and Los Angeles FC since a loss to New York City two months ago.
Nashville have been knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup during in this time, however, after a loss to Inter Miami in the round of 16 a month ago.
Montreal got their best win of the season in their last outing with a 4-0 victory over Minnesota United. Mason Toye bagged a brace that day with a goal in either half, as Zachary Brault-Guillard and Rudy Camacho also scored a goal each.
It was the seventh win of the season for the Canadian outfit, as Montreal now sit ninth in the table after scoring just 19 goals in 17 games and letting in 27.
It was also the end of a three-game winless run for Montreal, as they drew with D.C. United, lost to Philadelphia Union and were beaten by Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship final.
