Gremio expected to heap more misery on lowly America Mineiro
2015

Gremio welcome struggling America Mineiro to Porto Alegre on Thursday as the 2023 Brazilian Serie A season enters the eleventh round of fixtures.

The hosts find occupy sixth place in the table – seven points shy of first-placed Botafogo – having won three of their previous four league outings.

At the opposite end of the standings, America Mineiro find themselves third from bottom – four points above last-placed Coritiba and one point inside the relegation zone.

Gremio head into Thursday’s clash on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Flamengo, despite racking up a whopping 25 shots last weekend.

That loss ended a three-game winning streak in the league for Gremio, who dispatched Internacional, Athletico Paranaense and Sao Paulo before falling to Flamengo.

When you look at the bigger picture, Gremio have lost just one of their previous seven games across all competitions, picking up four wins and two draws in the process.

It is also worth remembering that Gremio have yet to taste defeat on home soil in 2023, registering 11 wins and four draws across all competitions.

On the flip side, America Mineiro have managed to win just two of their 10 Serie A matches this term, recording two draws and six losses.

To make matters worse for America Mineiro, they possess the poorest defensive record in the division, having already conceded 22 goals this season.

Although America Mineiro head into Thursday’s showdown on a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions, they have struggled to replicate their cup form in the league.

Having taken a solitary point from their four away league games this season – conceding over 1.5 goals on each occasion – America Mineiro will struggle to spark a revival on Thursday.

Head-to-head: America Mineiro have managed to win just one of their nine previous Serie A meetings with Gremio over the years.

Given that both teams have scored in six of the nine encounters, we should see plenty of action at both ends of the pitch on Thursday.

Team news: Gremio’s lengthy injury list contains Jhonata Robert, Pedro Geromel, Ferreira, Diego Souza, Joao Pedro and Fabio.

As for America Mineiro, they will be without the injured trio of Dada Belmonte, Matheusinho and Adyson for the trip to Porto Alegre.

Given the nine-point gap between these two sides in the Serie A standings, Gremio are expected to claim all three points on home soil.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score on Thursday. However, Gremio shouldn’t struggle to outscore America Mineiro on their way to victory.
