Poland set to heap more qualifying misery on Moldova

European minnows Moldova welcome Group E favourites Poland to Zimbru Stadium in Euro 2024 qualifying on Tuesday night.
The Moldovans find themselves second from bottom in Group E – one point above the Faroe Islands – having record two draws and one loss so far.
At the opposite end of the standings, Poland occupy second place, although they have a game in hand over the Czech Republic, who sit four points clear at the summit.
Back in March, Moldova started their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with back-to-back draws against the Faroe Islands and the Czech Republic.
However, the Moldovans suffered a 2-0 defeat to Albania on Saturday, registering a solitary attempt on target while seeing just 28% of the ball.
Following friendly defeats against Azerbaijan and Romania back in November, Moldova have now failed to win any of their previous five matches.
Worse still, Moldova have managed to win just four of their last 22 games across all competitions, losing nine of their 10 World Cup qualifiers during that period.
Poland, meanwhile, claimed a 1-0 friendly victory over Germany last Friday, despite seeing just 24% possession while converting their only shot on target.
The Eagles played their two qualifying matches so far back in March, suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Czech Republic before beating Albania 1-0.
That means Poland head into Tuesday’s clash on the back of two straight clean-sheet wins, so they will fancy their chances of achieving another shutout against lowly Moldova.
It is also worth noting that Poland have lost just three of their previous 27 European Championship qualifiers, underling their strength at this level.
Head-to-head: Moldova have failed to win any of their six previous meetings with Poland, suffering five defeats between 1996 and 2014.
The aggregate score between these two sides stands at 10-2 in favour of Poland, meaning the Eagles hold the upper hand ahead of the forthcoming meeting.
Team news: Moldova are expected to deploy a 5-3-2 formation, with Ion Nicolaescu and Vitalie Damașcan occupying the forward roles.
On the flip side, Poland will be spearheaded by Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, while Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski will operate in the engine room.
Given Moldova’s poor form, Poland are expected to come away with another victory on Tuesday after dispatching Germany last time out.
Forebet predicts that Poland will keep a clean sheet while securing a low-scoring win over Moldova at Zimbru Stadium.
