Qualifying for UEFA Euro 2024 resumes on Friday, with Group B rivals Greece and the Republic of Ireland locking horns at the Agia Sophia Stadium.
Greece kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory over Gibraltar back in March, while Ireland suffered a 1-0 defeat to France in their opener.
With the Netherlands also taking part in Group B, Greece and Ireland will both be eager to pick up a positive result on Friday as they bid to secure a top-two spot.
Greece head into Friday’s clash on a two-game unbeaten run, with a goalless friendly draw against Lithuania following the 3-0 win over Gibraltar.
When you look at the bigger picture, the Greeks have lost just one of their last five matches in all competitions, picking up two wins and two draws.
Better still, Greece have only lost two of their previous 10 games, winning five of their six Nations League matches last year.
It is also worth noting that Greece have won each of their last four European Championship qualifiers, so they will be confident of overcoming Ireland.
As for the Republic of Ireland, they pushed France all the way in their opener but ended up suffering 1-0 defeat at the Aviva Stadium back in March.
That means Ireland have recorded three wins and three draws in their previous six encounters across all competitions, underlining their inconsistency.
That said, Ireland have enjoyed plenty of success in Euro qualifying in recent years, losing just four of their previous 31 qualifiers.
Although Ireland failed to score a goal in each of their last three qualifiers away from home, the visitors will fancy their chances of picking up a positive result in Athens.
Head-to-head: Greece and Ireland have faced each other three times over the years, playing out three friendly encounters between 2000 and 2012.
Greece have claimed two 1-0 victories over Ireland, while the two nations dished up a goalless draw back in 2002.
Team news: Greece’s squad features Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas and Sheffield United right-back George Baldock, as well as Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has called up uncapped duo Liam Scales and Jack Taylor, along with highly-rated Brighton young gun Evan Ferguson.
Friday’s showdown looks set to be a close-fought battle between two evenly matched teams, meaning we could see the spoils shared in Athens.
Forbet predicts that Greece and Ireland will dish up a goalless draw at the Agia Sophia Stadium, with the hosts extending their unbeaten start to the qualifying campaign.
