The Netherlands welcome Croatia to De Kuip on Wednesday night as the UEFA Nations League semi-finals get underway.
With Spain and Italy facing off in the other semi-final, Sunday’s final is destined to be a high-profile clash between two top-ranked European sides.
Can the Netherlands reach their second Nations League final in three attempts? Or will Croatia book their place in the showpiece for the very first time?
The Netherlands kicked off their Nations League campaign by winning Group A4, notching five victories and one draw to finish six points clear of second-placed Belgium.
At the World Cup, the Dutch took seven points from a possible nine during that group stage before defeating the United States 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
However, the Netherlands suffered a penalty-shootout defeat to Argentina in the last eight, despite a brace from Wout Weghorst.
During the previous international back in March, the Dutch lost 4-0 to France before beating Gibraltar 3-0, making it difficult to know how they will fare on Wednesday.
As for Croatia, they lost just one of their six Nations League group games to finish atop Group A1 – one point clear of second-placed Denmark and eight points above France.
The Croatians then made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Qatar World Cup, courtesy of penalty-shootout triumphs over Japan and Brazil.
Like the Netherlands, however, Croatia fell to eventual champions Argentina in Qatar, losing 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Since then, Zlatko Dalic’s men have claimed two wins and a draw, defeating Morocco and Turkey while drawing with Wales. Can Croatia extend their unbeaten run on Wednesday?
Head-to-head: The Netherlands and Croatia have only faced each other on two occasions over the years, with both sides picking up one victory.
Croatia beat the Netherlands 2-1 at the 1998 World Cup before the Dutch gained their revenge with a 3-0 friendly victory over the Croatians in 2008.
Team news: Sven Botman, Tijjani Reijnders and Joey Veerman are all in line to make their senior Netherlands debuts on Wednesday.
Croatia have called up uncapped pair Dion Drena Beljo and Nediljko Labrovic, while Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic and Domagoj Vida all have 100+ caps to their name.
Although the Netherlands are at home on Wednesday, Croatia will fancy their chances of pushing the hosts all the way.
