Internacional and Vasco da Gama Set for a High-Scoring Serie A Battle

The Estadio Beira-Rio sees Internacional and Vasco da Gama lock horns on Sunday with both sides struggling in the first handful of games in the Brazilian Serie A as Vasco da Gama aim to rocket out of the relegation zone.

The away side are heading into this one down in 19th and only off the foot of the table by three points and goals difference.

The club have secured just one win this season compared to Coritiba's zero, but this still keeps Vasco da Gama away from the safe spots of Serie A by two points.

Vasco da Gama have let in the most goals in the league by this point too, having conceded 20 times from only nine games and lost five matches too.

This has seen them also bag just nine, and their only win in the league came all the way back in mid-April after a 2-1 victory on the road to Atletico Mineiro.

The club have since gone on to draw with Palmeiras, Coritiba and Fluminense and lose to Santos, Bahia, Fortaleza, Sao Paulo and most recently, Flamengo at home.

In fact, within the past three games alone, Vasco da Gama have conceded 10 goals and scored just three times.

As for Internacional, their season isn't going much better either. The club head into this match with three wins on the board and four losses with them also drawing twice in the league so far.

It has seen them score fewer goals than that of Vasco da Gama, having netted just eight so far. Their defensive record is significantly better, however, with just 12 goals let in from nine games.

Internacional are also on a poor run of form having lose to America-MG in the Copa do Brasil last Thursday on penalties. The game did finish 3-3 on aggregate after a 3-1 win over America-MG in the second leg.

Internacional then drew 1-1 with Santos back in the league and also drew 1-1 with Nacional in the Copa Libertadores matchday five on Wednesday.

The poor run of form from both sides makes this one a tough one to call. A few goals are expected, however, with one of the league's worst defences taking on a side that struggles to score.
