Malmo FF to roll over Degerfors IF in the Allsvenskan
Malmö FF vs Degerfors IF - 05/06/2023
2108
Sweden’s Allsvenskan will move into round No 12, as Malmo seek to move into sole possession of first place. The Sky Blues are level on points with Elfsborg going into the weekend.
Elfsborg’s goal difference has them in first place ahead of Malmo but everything could change this weekend. BK Hacken are just three points off Elfsborg and Malmo. Hacken will aim to stay in the title race in the early stages.
Degerfors did not start the season well but are coming on strong. The team won just two of its opening eight games. Degerfors are now unbeaten in three straight matches in the Allsvenskan.
Although Degerfors are 12th in the 16-team league, they could move as high as ninth with a win and results going their way elsewhere.
The teams met in March in the Swedish Cup. Malmo won 2-1 thanks to goals from Isaac Kiese Thelin and Derek Cornelius.
Both Malmo goals came in the final four minutes, as the Sky Blues came from a goal down to win. Degerfors’ Dijan Vukojevic had scored in the 56th minute to give them the lead.
Malmo won five and drew once against Degerfors in the teams’ last six fixtures. The last two matches between the clubs saw over 2.5 goals. Indeed, Malmo are scoring goals in the Allsvenskan. They tallied over 2.5 goals in six of their last seven matches.
The Sky Blues are winless in their last two matches in the league. They fell 3-0 at Elfsborg last time out. The defeat opened the title race. Degerfors will arrive at Malmo at the right time. The Sky Blues’ head-to-head record against Degerfors gives them the upper hand.
Coach Henrik Rydstrom has four players in the Malmo treatment room ahead of Degerfors’ arrival. Midfielders Anders Christiansen is out for the season following a heart issue and Emmanuel Lomotey is out of action with a heel injury.
Goalkeeper Ismael Diawara has a calf injury and will miss the match. Anton Tinnerholm is expected to miss the match due to a groin muscle strain.
Degerfors coach Tobias Solberg will be without both Christos Gravius and Seid Korac due to suspensions. Vukojevic, who scored in the teams’ previous cup game this season, leads the team in goals with three.
Malmo may be winless in their last three Allsvenskan matches, but they have a strong historical head-to-head record against Degerfors. The Sky Blues should post a 4-1 win over the Reds and possibly move into first place depending on results elsewhere.
