Grenoble and Guingamp to dish up final-day stalemate
2253

Grenoble welcome Guingamp to the Stade des Alpes on Friday night as the 2022-23 Ligue 2 campaign draws to a close.

With one match remaining, seventh-placed Guingamp and ninth-placed Grenoble are separated by a solitary point, although both sides have nothing left to play for.

Can Guingamp extend their unbeaten streak and end the season on a high? Or will Grenoble snap their winless run and finish on a positive note?

Following a 1-0 defeat at Valenciennes last time out, Grenoble head into Friday’s clash on a four-match winless run, having taking one point from a possible 12.

After suffering back-to-back defeats against Paris FC and Metz, Grenoble played out a 1-1 draw with Rodez before falling to Valenciennes.

It is fair to say that Grenoble have experienced an inconsistent campaign, as they have recorded 14 wins, nine draws and 14 losses this term.

It is also worth noting that Grenoble boast the fourth-best defensive record in the division, although only bottom club Niort have scored fewer goals.

As for Guingamp, they have recorded 14 wins, 10 draws and 13 defeats this season, scoring 16 goals more than Grenoble while also conceding 12 more.

Thanks to last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Niort, Guingamp enter Friday’s showdown on a three-game unbeaten streak, having taken seven points from a possible nine.

When you look at the bigger picture, Guingamp have won four of their previous seven matches, suffering only two defeats along the way.

Given that each of their last three matches have produced under 2.5 goals, Friday’s clash is likely to be a low-scoring affair.

Head-to-head: Grenoble thrashed Guingamp 4-2 in the reverse fixture back in January, extending their winning run in this fixture to four matches.

To make matters worse for Guingamp, they have only managed to win one of their previous 12 meetings with Grenoble in Ligue 2.

Team news: Grenoble have reported no fresh injury problems ahead of the final game. Their danger man is ex-Guingamp forward Matthias Phaeton, who has bagged 10 goals and four assists this term.

On the flip side, Guingamp will be without Pierre Lemonnier on Friday as the centre-back continues to recovers from an ACL injury.

Given that Grenoble and Guingamp are separated by just one point in the table, Friday’s meeting looks destined to be a tight encounter.

Forebet predicts that Grenoble and Guingamp will play out a low-scoring draw at the Stade des Alpes, with both teams netting under 1.5 goals.
