Girona's Fight for a Top 7 Spot Still Well on Track With a Win Over Celta Vigo
5773

Some midweek La Liga battles sees Girona look to get their dream of a spot in Europe a huge boost just as Celta Vigo aims to secure survival in the Spanish top flight after another struggle this year.

In what is Girona's first season back in La Liga for three years, the club are still well within a shout of getting into the Europa Conference League spot this campaign.

Seventh in Spain takes the Europa Conference League after Real Madrid's win in the Copa del Rey, and Girona are just two adrift of Athletic Club in that place.

They are heading into this one with more goals scored than any other side in the division outside of the top three, as they've netted 55 goals but let in 50 - this is also the most conceded inside the top half of the table.

Girona won't be able to get into the top six and the Europa League it seems, however, with the gap on Real Betis in those spots now eight points.

The club did lose to Villarreal on Saturday, however, and it's now two games without a win after a 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad the week before that.

On the other hand, in the past month, Girona have managed to beat Sevilla in Seville and also defeat Real Madrid in a stunning 4-2 win that saw Valention Castellanos score all four goals. They've also beaten Mallorca and Elche in the past month, losing to Real Valladolid.

As for Celta Vigo, they head into this game with a gap of only four points on Valladolid in 18th and can be sucked deeper into trouble with a loss in this game.

The club have now let in 50 goals, which is the same amount as Girona.

They managed to lose to Athletic Club last time out and this now means four defeats in a row after losses to Villarreal, Getafe, Valencia and Athletic Club. Celta Vigo have now lost 16 times this season and only Valencia have lost more for those sitting outside of the bottom three.

Forbet predicts this game to see over 2.5 goals once more and for the game to see Girona win the game and keep their hopes of a spot in Europe just about alive.

It will also put Celta Vigo’s life in La Liga for another year in big doubt as they continue to fight relegation.
