Inter to continue hot streak with hard-fought victory at Napoli

Inter Milan will go in search of a six successive Serie A victory when they face newly-crowned champions Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Napoli will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Monza last weekend, although they remain 17 points clear of Inter in the standings.

Can the champions return to winning ways? Or will the Nerazzurri maintain their hot streak? It’s time to take a closer look at both sides.

Let’s start with the hosts, Napoli, who have stuttered slightly in recent weeks, recording two wins, three draws and one defeat across their previous six league outings.

Still, Luciano Spalletti’s men have enjoyed a remarkable campaign, losing just four of their 35 Serie A matches while picking up 26 wins and five draws overall.

The Neapolitans have been especially strong on home soil this season, winning 12 of their 17 home league games while suffering only two defeats.

With top scorer Victor Osimhen and pivotal playmaker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leading the way, Napoli will be confident of finishing the season on a high.

That said, Inter Milan will also back themselves to end the campaign on a positive note, having won each of their previous eight matches across all competitions.

On Tuesday, Simone Inzaghi’s men booked their place in the Champions League final with a 3-0 aggregate victory over arch-rivals AC Milan, keeping a fourth clean sheet in five outings.

The Nerazzurri head into Sunday’s clash on the back of five straight league wins, having scored 18 goals while keeping three clean sheets.

It is also worth noting that Inter have avoided defeat at half time in each of their previous 15 away games in Serie A, underlining their stubbornness on the road.

Head-to-head: Inter Milan are unbeaten in their last seven Serie A meetings with Napoli, with five wins and two draws coming in that time.

Given that six of the past eight encounters have dished up over 1.5 goals, Napoli and Inter are expected to produce plenty of action this time around.

Team news: Napoli look set to be without the injured duo of Hirving Lozano (knee) and Mario Rui (foot) for Sunday’s showdown.

Inter are expected to be without Milan Skriniar (back), while Henrikh Mkhitaryan (muscle) is a doubt after leaving the pitch early against Milan on Tuesday.

Since securing the scudetto, Napoli have taken their foot off the gas. By contrast, Inter Milan have continued to rack up the wins as they aim to finish the season on a high.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Inter Milan will overcome Napoli on Sunday, scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
