Chelsea expected to make light work of relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest will continue their bid for Premier League survival when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Having edged relegation rivals Southampton on Monday, Nottingham Forest sit three points clear of the drop zone with three games remaining.

Chelsea, meanwhile, find themselves 11th in the table – nine points above Forest. It is also worth pointing out that Frank Lampard’s side are 21 points shy of the top four.

The Blues ended a six-match losing run with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend, courtesy of goals from Conor Gallagher, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix.

However, that was Chelsea’s first win since March, with two draws and seven defeats coming since a victory over Leicester City two months ago.

Not only have Chelsea lost each of their last three home games, but they have also managed to win just one of their previous 10 encounters across all competitions.

Still, Lampard and his players will be confident of sealing back-to-back wins for the first time since March, given Nottingham Forest’s perilous position.

It is worth noting, however, that Forest have taken six points from their last three matches, with a 3-1 victory over Brighton preceding Monday’s 4-3 win against Southampton.

When you look at the bigger picture, though, Steve Cooper’s side have only managed to win two of their last 14 league outings, suffering nine defeats in the process.

To make matters worse for the Tricky Trees, they possess the worst away record in the Premier League, having picked up a solitary victory in 17 matches on the road.

After suffering eight consecutive away defeats, Nottingham Forest will struggle to enhance their chances of survival at Stamford Bridge, regardless of Chelsea’s iffy form.

Head-to-head: Nottingham Forest managed to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at the City Ground back in January.

However, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Forest, with the Blues scoring 12 goals across four wins between 2007 and 2020.

Team news: Chelsea’s injury list contains Armando Broja, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mason Mount, Marc Cucurella, Reece James, Marcus Bettinelli and Ben Chilwell.

Forest also have multiple injury absentees, with Dean Henderson, Chris Wood, Omar Richards, Scott McKenna, Gustavo Scarpa, Jack Colback, Jonjo Shelvey and Neco Williams on the sidelines.

Although Forest have won two of their last three games, Chelsea are expected to flex their muscles and heap more away-day misery on Cooper’s men.

Forebet predicts that Chelsea will score over 2.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to dispatching Nottingham Forest.
