Wolverhampton Wanderers will welcome Aston Villa to Molineux on Saturday, with the chance to seal their place in the Premier League for next season.
Wolves are seven points above the relegation zone. There are still 12 points left to play for, meaning the Old Gold could still be sucked into a late relegation battle.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, are fighting for European qualification for next season. The Villains are seventh in the standings and just outside the top six due to goal difference.
As it stands, Aston Villa would qualify for the Europa Conference League. However, Unai Emery is aiming for a place in the Europa League.
Aston Villa are coming off a defeat against Man United 1-0 at Old Trafford. The defeat ended a five-match unbeaten streak.
Wolverhampton Wanderers lost 6-0 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium a week ago. It was an awful performance from the Old Gold. The team is looking to rebuild further under manager Julen Lopetegui in the offseason and finally move on from the Nuno Espirito Santo era.
Wolves took 10 points from the last six matches in the league but lost two of their last three matches. Goals remain elusive for Wolverhampton. They have tallied the third-fewest goals in the Premier League with 29 this season.
Aston Villa failed to win five of their last six matches against Wolverhampton. The Old Gold are unbeaten in four straight fixtures versus the Villains.
The reverse fixture between the teams finished in a 1-1 draw. Wolverhampton’s Daniel Podence opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Wolves were en route to winning the fixture, but Aston Villa’s Danny Ings (sold to West Ham in January) scored an equaliser with 12 minutes to play.
Emery will be without backup goalkeeper Jed Steer due to a calf injury. Boubacar Kamara is unlikely to play following an ankle injury.
Full-back Matty Cash may miss the match following a calf strain. Winger Leon Bailey is a doubt following a thigh injury. Midfielder Philippe Coutinho looks set to miss out due to a leg injury.
Lopetegui is still without Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic. Nelson Semedo is unlikely to make the squad due to a knee injury. Boubacar Traore could make the squad following a lack of match fitness.
Aston Villa may have lost to Man United a week ago, but Emery should lead them to a win over Wolves. Aston Villa will end their four-match winless streak against Wolves with a 2-0 victory at Molineux.
