It’s the biggest game in the past three decades in Naples with Napoli set to crown themselves as champions of Serie A if they can collect all three points at home to Salernitana on Saturday afternoon.
No side across Europe’s top five leagues have had it as easy as Napoli have this season with the club all but wrapping up the league title months ago, and in truth, they had one hand on the title before the World Cup. They now sit 17 points clear of Lazio in second after their loss last weekend.
At the same time, Napoli beat Juventus in Turin to do the league double over their rivals, as Giancomo Raspadori scored a fantastic volley in the final few seconds of the game to set up this chance to win the title on home soil.
It’s been 33 years since Napoli were in this position and there are still six games left to play after this match in Naples. The club have already secured 25 wins from 31 games and lost only three times with 21 goals conceded and 67 scored of their own.
The victory over Juventus was, however, the first win in four games for the league leaders after beating Lecce earlier in the season.
Napoli went on to lose 1-0 at the San Siro in the Champions League before a 0-0 draw at home to Hellas Verona. They then drew 1-1 at home to Milan before the win in Turin.
Victor Osimhen will be eyeing up more goals as well this weekend, with the Nigerian scoring 21 times from 25 games, having missed a bunch through injury.
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia is also looking to further cement his name as the best player in the league this season with his 12 goals and 10 assists already.
As for Salernitana, although they are out of the relegation zone and hopeful of staying in Serie A this season, they are still just six clear of the bottom three and are merely staying out of trouble because of the terrible form from those below them.
They did, however, record a stunning 3-0 win over Sassuolo last time out with a goal in the first half from Lorenzo Pirola and Boulaye Dia. Lassana Coulibaly also scored in the second half of a comfortable home win for the club.
Forebet predicts a win for Napoli, under 2.5 goals and for them to secure the league title.
