One Foot in the Championship for Southampton With Newcaslte Set to Win Again

Newcastle United are looking to put one foot in the Champions League for next season when they meet with Southampton at St. James’ Park where the away side also have one foot back in the Championship in the final few games of the season.

These two sides have had completely contrasting campaigns to this point, because while Newcastle have been fighting to get back into the Champions League for the first time in almost two decades, the Saints have been struggling to get out of the relegation zone all season long.

Prior to Southampton's midweek game with Bournemouth that saw two relegation fighters battle one another, many predicted the club were all but relegated anyway.

Now, after a 1-0 home loss to a fellow struggler, it's near impossible to see how Southampton stay in the Premier League this season.

Regardless, the club did get a fantastic point away to the league leaders Arsenal last Friday, as Carlos Alcarez netted after just one minute in the game.

Theo Walcott also scored against his old side before Duje Caleta-Carr scored late on in the second 45 to give Southampton a 3-1 lead at the time.

They are now sitting behind Nottingham Forest in 17th by six points and are also adrift of Everton just ahead of them by four points with only 15 left on the board.

Southampton have scored just 27 goals this season and let in 57 of their own with the last win coming at home to Leicester City back in March.

As for Newcastle, it's turning out to be their best season since their title challenge in the late 1990s, with the club still two clear of Manchester United and sit third.

In fact, Champions League football can all but be secured with a win here, as they sit eight above Tottenham Hotspur in fifth and have a game in hand to work with.

What's more, the Magpies are in arguably their best form of the season after scoring 19 goals since the international break, losing only one game to Aston Villa two weeks ago.

The club smashed Everton 4-1 in midweek at Goodison Park and they are still living off the high of battering Spurs 6-1 after a stunning five goals inside 20 minutes.

Forebet predicts an easy win for Newcastle in this one and for the game to see over 2.5 goals, and it's tough to see how Southampton get anything out of this game.
