In-form Liverpool to extend winning streak at expense of struggling Spurs
3351

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are separated by a solitary point in the Premier League table ahead of their showdown at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Fifth-placed Tottenham lead seventh-placed Liverpool, although Jurgen Klopp’s side have a game in hand over Spurs.

Can Ryan Mason’s boys keep their faint Champions League hopes alive? Or will Liverpool leapfrog Tottenham in the table?

Liverpool head into Sunday’s clash on the back of a 2-1 victory at West Ham United, despite falling behind after 12 minutes at the London Stadium.

Cody Gakpo equalised for the visitors before Joel Matip netted the winner, while Klopp’s men racked up 73% possession and 20 shots.

Liverpool have now won each of their last three matches, with a 6-1 victory over Leeds United and a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest preceding Wednesday’s triumph.

Having avoided defeat in each of their last eight home league games – picking up six wins in the process – the Reds will be confident of heaping more misery on Spurs.

That said, Tottenham came from 2-0 down to rescue a draw against Manchester United on Thursday, with Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min grabbing the goals.

When you look at the bigger picture, however, Spurs have only managed to win two of their last 10 encounters in all competitions.

Let's not forget that Tottenham suffered a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth before enduring a humiliating 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle last weekend.

Cristian Stellini replaced Antonio Conte before Ryan Mason took over from Stellini, so Tottenham will be desperate to establish a sense of stability.

Head-to-head: Spurs have failed to win any of their last 10 league meetings with Liverpool, suffering seven defeats along the way.

Given that both teams have scored in 10 of the previous 11 Premier League meetings, we are bound to see plenty of action this time around.

Team news: Liverpool duo Roberto Firmino and Stefan Bajcetic remain sidelined through injury, while Ibrahima Konate and Naby Keita are doubts for Sunday.

Tottenham are currently without Yves Buissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Emerson Royal due to injury, while Hugo Lloris remains a doubt.

Although Spurs showed spirit to come from behind against Man Utd in midweek, in-form Liverpool are expected to make light work of Mason’s side.

Forebet predicts that Liverpool will score over 2.5 goals en route to sealing a comfortable victory over Tottenham at Anfield.
