Man City and Arsenal set for pivotal Premier League showdown
11670

Manchester City and Arsenal will lock horns at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, with the Premier League title race hanging in the balance.

The Gunners remain five points clear of second-placed Man City, but Pep Guardiola’s side have two games in hand over their title rivals.

Can Mikel Arteta’s men hold their nerve against the reigning champions? Or will Man City take another step towards clinching a fifth title in six years?

After reaching the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Bayern Munich in midweek, Man City booked their place in the FA Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Cityzens have now won 11 of their last 12 matches in all competitions, with a solitary defeat coming in their previous 20 encounters.

In terms of the Premier League, Man City head into Wednesday’s showdown on a six-game winning streak, with 10 victories coming in their last 12 outings.

Having won each of their previous 12 home games – scoring over 2.5 goals in 10 of those victories – Guardiola’s men will be hopeful of closing the gap to Arsenal.

As for the Gunners, they came from 2-0 down and 3-1 down to rescue a draw with bottom club Southampton last time out.

Arsenal racked up seven straight Premier League wins between mid-February and early April, but they have since recorded three successive draws to set up a nervy end to the season.

That said, Arteta’s men have only lost three of their 32 league games this term and have avoided defeat in each of their previous 10 league outings.

It is also worth noting that Arsenal have scored at least two goals in each of their past eight Premier League clashes, so they will fancy their chances of frustrating Man City.

Head-to-head: Manchester City have won each of their last seven meetings with Arsenal in all competitions, scoring 17 goals along the way.

On top of that, the Gunners have failed to win any of their previous 14 league meetings with City, while Guardiola’s men have claimed 12 victories.

Team news: Nathan Ake is Manchester City’s only injury absentee at the moment, with Phil Foden back in action following surgery.

Arsenal will be without the injured trio of William Saliba, Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu on Wednesday, while Granit Xhaka is a doubt due to illness.

Although Man City have enjoyed plenty of success against Arsenal in recent years, the Gunners are expected to rise to the occasion on Wednesday.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Manchester City and Arsenal will dish up a high-scoring draw at the Etihad, keeping the Gunners in command of the title race.
