Marseille ready to heap more misery on struggling Troyes

Marseille and Troyes will wrap up the weekend’s Ligue 1 action on Sunday evening as the two sides face off at the Stade Velodrome.

With eight games remaining, Marseille occupy third in the table – two points behind second-placed Lens and three points clear of Monaco.

Troyes, on the other hand, find themselves third from bottom – seven points inside the relegation zone and 40 points behind Marseille.

The hosts head into Sunday’s clash on a five-game unbeaten streak, having picked up two wins and three draws since their last loss.

When you look at the bigger picture, Marseille have lost just two of their previous 18 league matches, securing 11 victories in the process.

Better still, Marseille have only lost five of their 31 Ligue 1 encounters this season, keeping them in the hunt for Champions League football.

Although OM have managed to win just one of their last six home games, they will be confident getting the better of lowly Troyes.

It is easy to understand why Troyes are heading for Ligue 2, as they have failed to win any of their last 13 league matches.

Having recorded three draws and 10 defeats since their most recent victory, Troyes find themselves seven points from safety with eight games remaining.

Only bottom club Angers have picked up fewer wins than Troyes’ four this term, while no team has conceded more goals than Troyes’ 64.

With problems in every department, Troyes look destined for the second tier and aren’t likely to put up much of a fight against Marseille.

Head-to-head: Marseille defeated Troyes 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in November, meaning OM have avoided defeat in each of their last eight meetings.

To make matters worse for Troyes, they have only managed to win three of their previous 19 matches against Marseille.

Team news: Marseille midfielder Azzedine Ounahi looks set to miss the remainder of the campaign as he continues to recover from a broken toe.

Troyes will be without Renaud Ripart for the rest of the season, while Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Abdu Conte and Kariom Azamoum are all expected to miss Sunday’s clash.

With Troyes heading for Ligue 2 – and Marseille chasing Champions League football – the hosts shouldn’t struggle to claim all three points here.

Forebet predicts that Marseille will keep a clean sheet on their way to overcoming Troyes, while OM should score over 1.5 goals.
