Lille Back to Winning Ways With a Victory Expected Over Brest

Ligue 1 action this weekend kicks off with Lille playing hosts to Brest on Friday at the Stade Pierre Mauroy off the back of a gut-wrenching loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital last weekend as Brest hover just above the bottom four.

Lille's sensational winning form came to an end last weekend after more brilliance from the famous trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. Lille did end up going 2-0 down to PSG that day, but they levelled the game through Bafode Diakite and a penalty from Jonathan David.

Jonathan Bamba may have thought he won it with a goal in the 69th minute of the game, but a goal from Mbappe with three minutes left of regular time and a free kick from Messi in the final few seconds won it for PSG.

Lille are still in sixth after a sensational run of form throughout 2023 so far. It has seen the club get to within just two points of the Europa Conference League spot of fifth, but they are still nine behind Monaco in third.

What's more, this loss to PSG was their first defeat in 90 minutes since losing to Nice at the end of January. Lille went on to draw 0-0 with Clermont Foot and beat Rennes 3-1 away from home in the league.

However, they did lose in the French Cup round of 16 to Lyon on penalties, but returned to the win column with a 2-0 win over Strasbourg. Lille now head into this one with them having scored 43 times and conceded 31.

As for Brest, they are still in dire straits and are now closer to the relegation zone than they have been all season long. In fact, the club are now only one point above Troyes in 17th and they come into this Ligue 1 match with only four wins on the table and 12 defeats.

What's more, only those in the bottom three have scored fewer goals than Brest this season.

Brest lost to Monaco last time out 2-1, as Jeremy Le Douaron scored in the last four minutes for them. It has now extended the club's winless run to four games since their excellent 4-0 win over Angers.

Eric Roy's men have since drawn 0-0 with Lyon and 1-1 with Lens, and although these are commendable results, they did go on to lose 3-0 to Montpellier a week later.

Forebet predicts a Lille win and under 2.5 goals.
