Lille's European Dream Back on Track With Another Win Over Strasbourg
2676

Strasbourg will be eyeing up a spot outside of the bottom four this weekend when they meet with Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy with the 2020/21 champions back up into sixth after a great run of form in 2023 sees them in with a shout of getting back into Europe all of a sudden.

It’s been a season to forget for Strasbourg and they are merely looking to just stay in the league this season.

The club remain in the drop zone ahead of this one and although form has improved slightly recently, they are still reliant on sides above them dropping points in order to get back into the safe spots of Ligue 1.

Strasbourg have won just three games in the league so far and only Angers in last place have won fewer.

In fact, the majority of the club's points come through their nine draws this campaign that also sees them lose 10 outings and let in 39 goals - this is the best defensive record for those sitting in the bottom seven, however.

Last time out, Strasbourg defeated Montpellier at home, as Habib Diallo was once again the hero with two goals in the first half that included a goal after one minute as well.

Jean-Eudas Aholou was, however, sent off that day for the club and will now miss this game and consequently leave quite a big gap in midfield.

Mathieu Le Scornet have also beaten Lyon away from home in 2023 and this remains their best win of the season. However, in also losing to Toulouse, Rennes, Troyes and Paris Saint-Germain since the end of the World Cup, they sit with a lot of work to do.

In fact, they even lost on penalties to last-placed Angers in the round of 64 French Cup.

Lille are heading into this one off the back of a fantastic run of form that has seen them move into sixth in the table.

Only Nice have beaten them since the World Cup break, as they've gone on to register victories over Clermont Foot, Troyes and Rennes in recent times. The club even beat Lyon in the French Cup round of 16 on penalties last Wednesday.

Lille are now sitting just two behind Rennes in fifth and adrift of Lens in third by eight points. It is going to be tough to manage, but Lille's European dream is far from over. Forebet predicts a win for them and for the game to see ove 2.5 goals.
