Inter to Remain in 2nd With a Narrow Win Over Sampdoria

Second from top meets with second from bottom in Serie A this weekend at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium with Inter Milan set to head on the road to meet with Sampdoria as the Milan side aim to stay in second place with the gap on Napoli too big.

It's far from a mathematical conclusion in Italy's top flight this season, but with Napoli still 13 clear after losing only once this Serie A campaign, there is very little to give Inter hope of reaching the summit once more.

On the other hand, they are now ahead of Roma in second by three points and above Lazio in fourth by four points.

This does mean that no matter what happens in this game, Inter will still be in a Champions League spot when the week ends.

The 19-time champions are also expected to get another win here and not long after beating their rivals AC Milan yet again this season and only one season after their rivals conquered Italy.

Inter defeated them 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia just last month and then went on to beat them 1-0 in a league encounter back at the San Siro. Lautaro Martinez scored in the 3-0 win and got the winner in the 1-0 victory back in Serie A.

Inter have also managed to get into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia recently, following on from a 1-0 win over Atalanta.

They will now play against Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-finals across two legs in early April. Simeone Inzaghi's side have still managed to lose to Empoli at the San Siro in the past three weeks, and only narrowly scraped past the winless Cremonese away from home in a 2-1 win.

Quite incredibly, Inzaghi's side have still managed to lose six times in Serie A this season and they were as low down as sixth in the league just prior to the World Cup break.

The points deduction for Juventus does help greatly, but besides their loss to Empoli, they have been faultless since action resumed after the World Cup.

As for Sampdoria, they seemingly have one foot in Serie B with them failing to find any sort of consistency. The club drew 2-2 with Monza last weekend and it keeps them in 19th and now eight points from safety.

Forebet predicts a win for Inter and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
