Arsenal poised to strengthen title charge with victory over Brentford
8248

Arsenal will be looking to get their Premier League title charge back on track when they welcome Brentford to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Despite losing to Everton last time out, the Gunners remain five points clear of second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand on their rivals.

Meanwhile, Brentford find themselves seventh – seven points outside the Champions League places and 17 points behind Arsenal. Could the Bees cause an upset this weekend?

Mikel Arteta’s side chalked up a 13-game unbeaten run in the league between September and January, picking up 11 wins and two draws along the way.

Surprisingly, their hot streak was ended by relegation-threatened Everton last weekend – despite the Gunners racking up 71% possession and 15 shots at Goodison Park.

When you look at the bigger picture, however, Arsenal have lost just two of their 20 Premier League matches this season, securing 16 wins and two draws in the process.

It is also worth noting that Arsenal remain unbeaten at the Emirates in the league this season, having achieved nine wins and one draw on home soil.

As for Brentford, they are enjoying an outstanding second season in the Premier League, cementing their status as a top-flight regular.

The Bees have only lost four their 21 league outings this term, picking up eight wins and nine draws, while only Arsenal and Newcastle United have suffered fewer defeats.

Thomas Frank’s side head into Saturday’s clash on a nine-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, having clinched five wins and four draws since their last loss.

With victories over West Ham United, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Southampton coming in their past five outings, Brentford are expected to give Arsenal a run for their money.

Head-to-head: Arsenal thrashed Brentford 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in September, meaning they have won each of their last two league matches against the Bees.

The Gunners have also won three of their previous four meetings with Brentford in all competitions, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of those victories.

Head-to-head: Gabriel Jesus remains sidelined for Arsenal, meaning Eddie Nketiah will continue to lead the line. Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are also doubts.

Meanwhile, Brentford look set to be without the injured trio of Pontus Jansson, Shandon Baptiste and Frank Onyeka for the trip for the Emirates.

There is no hiding the fact that Brentford are enjoying a hugely impressive campaign, but Arsenal shouldn’t struggle to claim all three points on home soil.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal will enhance their title charge with a comfortable victory over Brentford, scoring over 1.5 goals while keeping a clean sheet.
