Lazio will be desperate to get a win in Serie A against Sassuolo this weekend at the Mapei Stadium with the Rome outfit now down in fifth after two winless games in the competition since to now all but ruin their chances of a league title.
A title triumph in Serie A was unlikely for Lazio regardless of their form over the past two weeks, given how Juventus and Napoli continue to create a two-horse race in the campaign.
Lazio lost to Lecce in their comeback game in Serie A, where Ciro Immobile gave his side the lead after 15 minutes. Lecce came back to win the game 2-1 after two goals in the second half.
Worse yet, Immobile and co. let a 2-0 lead slip in their home game against Empoli, as Empoli snatched an equaliser in stoppage time.
Unlike some sides in Serie A, however, Lazio did not play in midweek during the Coppa Italia battles, which now means they have had a full week of rest compared to other teams.
The club are in fifth now, however, which does mean there is a 13-point gap on league leaders Napoli and a gap of six points on Juventus in second and AC Milan in third.
Inter are only three clear of them, while Lazio have a better goals difference than them because of their excellent defensive record - only Napoli and Juventus have let in fewer goals than their 14 in Serie A.
The Rome side have also scored 19 times, which is more than Juventus and only Inter, Milan and Napoli have scored more than them.
As for Sassuolo, they have been sucked closer to the relegation zone than ever this season after the first two games in Serie A.
The club are above the bottom three by seven points, which will give them great confidence in surviving in the league this year, but this is more due to the fact that Hellas Verona and Sampdoria have been so poor in contrast to Sassuolo's form.
Worse yet for Sassuolo, they lost to Sampdoria in their comeback game 2-1 after Domenico Berardi scored from the penalty spot when they were 2-0 down.
Berardi netted another penalty against Fiorentina, but by letting in a goal in stoppage time, Sassuolo lost 2-1 once again.
Forebet predicts a win here for Lazio with Sassuolo's form just too bad right now. Forebet also predicts the game to see over 2.5 goals.
