Liverpool set for slender home victory over Leicester

Liverpool will be looking to extend their winning streak in the Premier League to four games when they welcome Leicester City to Anfield on Friday night.

Following a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Liverpool have climbed to sixth in the table – five points outside the Champions League places.

At the opposite end of the standings, Leicester find themselves thirteenth – five points clear of the relegation zone and seven points behind Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side returned from the World Cup break on December 22, suffering a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in the EFL Cup.

However, following the Boxing Day win against Villa, Liverpool head into Friday’s clash on a three-game winning run in the Premier League.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Reds have won five of their previous seven league outings. Let’s not forget that they won just two of their opening eight this season.

In addition to having the fifth-best offensive record in the division, Liverpool boast the fourth-best defensive record. Needless to say, they have upped their game since the start of the campaign.

As for Leicester, they were thrashed 3-0 by Newcastle United on Boxing Day – despite seeing 61% possession on home soil.

Consequently, the Foxes have lost nine of their 16 Premier League games this term – picking up five wins and two draws in the process.

Brendan Rodgers’ men lost seven of their first nine league outings this season, before enjoying a run of four wins in five games in the lead-up to the World Cup.

However, they were dealt a big reality check on Boxing Day and remain in the relegation battle as the second phase of the season commences.

Head-to-head: Leicester have only managed to win two of their last ten Premier League meetings with Liverpool, suffering seven defeats along the way.

The Reds beat the Foxes 2-0 back in February, meaning they have scored over 1.5 goals in each of their last seven league wins against Rodgers’ side.

Team news: Liverpool’s lengthy injury list features Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Roberto Firmino and James Milner.

Leicester will be without James Justin, Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans and Ryan Bertrand on Friday. James Maddison is also an injury doubt.

There is no denying that Leicester have made vast improvements since the start of the season. Even so, Liverpool should be too strong for the Foxes.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score at Anfield. However, Liverpool are expected to net over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
