Aberdeen are on a two-game Scottish Premiership losing streak ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at St Mirren. The Dons are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Celtic and a 3-2 loss to Rangers.
The loss to Rangers was extremely disheartening, as Aberdeen conceded twice in second-half stoppage time to lose the game. Aberdeen lost four of their last six games in the league and are hanging onto a top-six place.
St Mirren are fighting for a place in the top six ahead of Christmas. The Saints are seventh in the Premiership standings ahead of Aberdeen’s arrival.
Their last two games ended in draws, as St Mirren picked up a 2-2 stalemate with St Johnstone and a 1-1 draw with Rangers.
Despite the back-to-back draws, St Mirren are winless in five of their last six games in the Premiership. The Saints have played well against Aberdeen in recent head-to-head clashes. The teams’ last six games were divided into two wins, two draws, and two defeats apiece.
Saturday’s match at St Mirren Park will be the teams’ second meeting of the campaign. Aberdeen won the reverse fixture at Pittodrie 4-1.
St Mirren’s Declan Gallagher was sent off in the opening 22 minutes of the game. From there, Aberdeen took control of the fixture scoring three times before halftime through Borja Miovski (twice) and Leighton Clarkson.
Duk scored the fourth for Aberdeen in the second half after St Mirren’s Jonah Ayunga pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. Aberdeen racked up 75.1% of the game’s possession.
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson will celebrate one year on the job in February. He has the Buddies playing well and potentially moving into the top half of the table with a win on Saturday.
Robinson has just one player on the injury list as Richard Tait has a groin strain and is a major doubt to play.
Ayunga, who scored St Mirren’s lone goal against Aberdeen in the reverse fixture leads the team with three goals. He is tied with Alex Greive and Mark O’Hara in scoring.
Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin will also celebrate his first anniversary in February. Goodwin has no fresh injury worries.
However, Clarkson limped off against Rangers in midweek and could be limited to a substitute’s role on Saturday.
Clarkson is playing well for the Dons. The on-loan Liverpool player has four goals and scored a cracker of a striker against Rangers in midweek. Aberdeen are led in goals by Miovski with 11.
St Mirren won their last two games at home against Aberdeen. The Buddies should make it three wins in a row at St Mirren Park against Aberdeen with a 2-1 win.
