Spurs expected to ease past Brentford on Boxing Day

The English Premier League returns on Boxing Day, with Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur kick-starting the post-World Cup action at Gtech Community Stadium.

Tottenham return from the World Cup break in fourth place – one point behind Newcastle United and eight points shy of first-place Arsenal.

As for Brentford, they find themselves tenth – six points clear of the relegation zone and ten points behind Spurs. Can the Bees close the gap on Monday?

Brentford have only managed to win four of their 15 Premier League encounters this season, recording seven draws and four losses along the way.

Having claimed more draws than anyone else, only the bottom four teams have picked up fewer victories than Brentford. That said, only the top three sides have suffered fewer defeats.

Thomas Frank’s men suffered one loss in six league games in the lead-up to the World Cup and signed off with a memorable 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

It is worth noting, however, that Brentford have only managed to win one of their previous six encounters across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have won nine of their 15 league games this term – registering two draws and four defeats in the process.

Spurs kicked off their campaign with a seven-game unbeaten streak, picking up five wins and two draws. Since then, however, they have recorded four wins and four losses.

That said, Antonio Conte’s side have won two of their last three Premier League games – beating Bournemouth 3-2 and Leeds United 4-3.

It is also worth noting that Tottenham have lost just two of their previous 12 away outings in the league, highlighting their strength on the road.

Head-to-head: Brentford and Tottenham have faced each other on two occasions since the Bees gained top-flight promotion in 2021.

Spurs won the first meeting 2-0 on home soil, before Brentford held Conte’s side to a goalless draw last time around. Tottenham also beat Brentford 2-0 in the EFL Cup back in January 2021.

Team news: Brentford are currently without several key players due to injury, including Kristoffer Ajer, Shandon Baptiste, Pontus Jansson and Aaron Hickey.

Tottenham look set to be without Richarlison for an extend period, while Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp and Djed Spence are doubts for Monday.

Although Brentford finished the first phase of the season on a high note, Tottenham have more than enough firepower to claim all three points.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Spurs will score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet en route to dispatching the Bees.
