Rio Ave to Beat Farense and Put Pressure on Sporting at the Top
5536

It's the return of the Taca da Liga this Tuesday evening in Portugal with Rio Ave looking to get another win on the board in the group just as Farense aim to jump ahead of the Primeira Liga side with a win as only goals difference separates the two.

Rio Ave have so far won one game and lost the other to this stage in the Taca da Liga. They do also have to deal with how they have the holders and four-time winners, Sporting Lisbon, in their group and they have won and drawn one game and are yet to concede a goal in Group B.

In fact, Rio Ave managed to lose to Sporting in the last outing in the competition, losing 2-0 without getting a shot on target on the board. Shortly before that loss, however, Rio Ave managed to beat Maritimo away from home to get one win on the board and their first goal too.

In the Primeira Liga, the competition has taken a break because of the World Cup, but in the last two games, Rio Ave have managed to secure all three points and kept a clean sheet too.

In fact, with the 1-0 win over Maritimo in the cup too, before losing to Sporting Lisbon last time out, Rio Ave won three games in a row 1-0. The club are now up to 10th in the league with 18 points on the board from 13 games and sit just one point behind ninth and eighth place in the Primeira Liga.

Rio Ave have also won five and lost five in the league so far, drawing the other three. At the same time, they have a relatively decent goals difference record with 16 goals scored and 18 let in from 13 games.

Farense, however, are in tatters in the Taca da Liga, but have a lot to be hopeful about in the league. The club are currently sitting second and in the automatic promotion spots after 13 games and having put 28 points on the board as well.

In the cup, they did manage to heap more misery on Maritimo last time out with a 2-0 win, but in losing 6-0 to Sporting Lisbon shortly beforehand, they have a terrible goals difference record and now sit third and behind Rio Ave because of that demolition job from the current champions.
