Sheffield United to go top of the Championship with a win against Huddersfield
1744

Sheffield United are on an excellent run of form in the Championship. The Blades are second in the league thanks to being unbeaten in five of their last six games.

On Saturday, Sheffield United will play Huddersfield in a Yorkshire Derby. The two sides need points for opposite reasons. The Blades can go top of the table with a win, as the current league leader, Burnley, do not play until Sunday.

Huddersfield are rock bottom of the Championship table. The Terriers are four points from safety in the standings. Results have improved recently under manager Mark Fotheringham.

Last season under Carlos Corberan, Huddersfield were battling for promotion when many fans expected a relegation fight. Corberan left due to a dispute with the board over investment. This season, without the Spanish manager, Huddersfield are battling the drop and could go down.

Huddersfield took four points from six against Sheffield United last season. The Terries will need to do something special to get a result this season at Bramall Lane. Huddersfield failed to score in five of their last seven matches in the Championship.

The Terriers did pick up eight points from the last six games, however. They only score three goals but the defence kept the games close by giving up just four goals. Huddersfield have the Championship’s worst away points total. The Terriers have just five points from nine games on the road this term.

Sheffield United took 13 points from the last six matches in the league. The Blades scored 11 goals and conceded five times. Recently, the Blades had difficulty turning draws into wins at home.

Still, Sheffield United picked up 18 points from 10 home games in 2022-23. Manager Paul Heckingbottom’s team scored 22 goals in their opening 10 home matches. The Blades have the league’s second-most goals with 35. Huddersfield have the third-fewest goals with 19.

Huddersfield’s Tyreece Simpson is a major doubt with a knee injury. Centre-back Yuta Nakayama is ruled out after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

Sheffield United right-back Jayden Bogle is likely to miss due to a knee issue. Centre-back Jack O’Connell is out after having knee surgery.

The Blades are led in goals by Oliver McBurnie and Iliman Ndiaye, who have combined for 18 goals (nine apiece). Sheffield United should pick up a win on Saturday at home with a 1-0 victory. Huddersfield failed to score in five of their last seven matches in the Championship.
