Birmingham expected to heap more misery on struggling Blackpool

Two sides in the bottom half of the Championship go head-to-head this weekend, with Blackpool hosting Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road.

After 21 games, Blackpool find themselves second from bottom in the table – three points above last-place Huddersfield Town.

Meanwhile, Birmingham sit fourteenth – six points clear of Blackpool. Can the Blues widen the gap this weekend? Or will the Tangerines turn things around?

Blackpool have only managed to win six of their 21 Championship encounters this season, recording four draws and 11 losses along the way.

No team has suffered more Championship defeats than Blackpool this term, while only lowly Huddersfield have picked up fewer victories.

Having conceded 33 goals in 21 league outings, the Tangerines currently have the second-worst defensive record in the Championship.

Not only have Blackpool lost each of their last four league games, but they have also lost five of their previous seven.

On the flip side, Birmingham’s record of seven wins, seven draws and seven losses tells you everything you need to know about their campaign.

The Blues made a poor start to the season, suffering four defeats across their opening seven Championship outings.

Since then, however, they have only suffered three losses in 14 league games and have lost just two of their previous nine.

Funnily enough, Birmingham have scored one goal fewer than Blackpool this term. But the Blues have also conceded 13 goals fewer than the Tangerines.

Head-to-head: Blackpool thrashed Birmingham 6-1 when the teams last met back in April. However, that was only their second victory in nine attempts.

Birmingham have won three of the previous five meetings between the teams, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Team news: Blackpool have Marvin Ekpiteta, while James Husband, Jordan Thorniley and Kevin Stewart are expected to miss Saturday’s clash due to injury.

Birmingham have several injury problems of their own. Indeed, Harlee dean, Gary Gardner and Przemyslaw Placheta are all likely to miss the trip to Blackpool.

If the contrasting form of these two sides before the World Cup break is anything to go by, Blackpool are heading for a fifth consectuive defeat.

Forebet predicts that Birmingham will score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to dispatching Blackpool.
