France to Secure Top Spot and Send Tunisia Home in Group D's Finale

The world champions are already through in the final game of Group D at the Qatar World Cup when France and Tunisia meet in a group where there is still everything to play for involving Denmark, Tunisia and Australia.

France will head through, but top spot is not yet secured. After beating Tunisia 1-0 with an early goal, Australia can still finish ahead of France.

They will, however, need to overturn a dramatic goals difference of over six goals, simply because of how the Socceroos lost to France in the opening game of Group D, meaning goals difference overturn and a France loss has to happen in order for the defending champions to be kicked off the top.

This looks incredibly unlikely given the form of France and the superstar, Kylian Mbappe. The Paris Saint-Germain star is already eyeing up the Golden Boot after missing out on the trophy in France's triumph four years ago.

In fact, Mbappe has become the clear favourite to win the award with his three goals in two games so far and how others like Harry Kane have not yet scored for their country.

Mbappe netted twice in the win over Denmark to give his country a 2-1 victory, scoring with a lovely finish and then netting from close range after a darting run into the box. He and his French teammates, however, are facing off against a Tunisia side with the best defensive record in the group so far.

Tunisia are yet to score a goal of their own after drawing 0-0 with Denmark and then losing 1-0 to Australia.

Given the form of Denmark and the Aussies, however, it still means Tunisia can head through if they can beat France by a comfortable margin and then hope that Australia and Denmark draw.

The latter is likely, but in truth, there is nothing to suggest that Tunisia will be able to beat a France side that so far looks just as good as they did in their 2018 World Cup triumph.

A lot of attention is also going to turn to Olivier Giroud in this one, as he is still just one goal away from surpassing Thierry Henry’s record as France’s best-ever goalscorer, and this may be his best chance to do so against a weak Tunisia side and how Les Blues have little to play for.

Forebet predicts a win for France here and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
