Bournemouth and Everton will meet at Dean Court on Tuesday night in an all-Premier League cup tie. Both teams go into the fixture on a run of poor form, and they will hope to overturn their lack of positive results in the Carabao Cup.

The Cherries are winless in five straight games and each of their last four league matches finished as losses. Bournemouth suffered a 4-3 loss to Leeds United on Saturday after going up 3-1 in the second half.

Interim coach Gary O’Neil instituted a rebound from a poor start under manager Scott Parker. However, Bournemouth are in awful form and they are just above the relegation zone once more in the league. The EFL Cup could be an unwanted distraction for Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Everton are winless in five of their last six games in the Premier League. They go into Tuesday’s cup tie having lost at the weekend in the Premier League to Leicester City in a six-point relegation affair.

Frank Lampard’s team is just two points above the relegation zone. The former Chelsea midfielder will hope the cup can get players back in form to fight for league survival.

Bournemouth and Everton most recently played during the 2019-20 season. Bournemouth did the Premier League double over Everton that campaign despite being relegated.

Since the 2015-16 season, these teams have faced off on 11 occasions in all competitions. Everton holds a slight edge over Bournemouth in the head-to-head results with a record of 5W-2D-4L.

The Cherries have had slightly better results at home this season. Their record at Dean Court is 2W-2D-3L, with six goals scored and eight conceded. Bournemouth have kept three clean sheets at home.

Everton’s road record is 2W-3D-3L. The Toffees' away record is similar to their record at home. Goals remain an issue for Everton with just six goals scored on the road.

Forward Anthony Gordon was highly-touted early in the campaign and Chelsea were linked with a high-priced transfer for the Everton player.

After scoring two goals in his opening five games, Gordon has just one goal in his last eight matches in the league.

Everton played Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup second round. They posted a 1-0 win thanks to a Demarai Gray goal.

Bournemouth drew 2-2 away with Norwich City in the second round of the cup. The Cherries came from behind twice thanks to goals from Emiliano Marcondes and Brooklyn Genesini to force penalties, which they won.

Both managers should select strong squads for the EFL Cup third round. The Premier League has just one matchday left before the FIFA World Cup 2022 break. Both managers will aim to get their teams back in form with a third-round cup win.
