Emery's First Game at Villa Likely to End in Defeat to Newcastle

Newcastle United will be looking to stay in the top four this weekend as they meet with Aston Villa at St. James’ Park just one week on from the sacking of Steven Gerrard at Villa Park as the Midlands side see former Arsenal manager Unai Emery play out his first game with the club and his first in England since leaving Arsenal in 2019.

The Spainard was sacked by the Gunners after a terrible run of form a while back, but he redeemed himself and proved his managerial capabilities with a fantastic effort back in his homeland that saw him win yet another Europa League.

In fact, he has managed to get Villarreal into seventh this season with five wins on the board and only three losses.

They also had the best defensive record outside of the top two El Clasico sides in Spain, letting in just seven goals in 11 games and scoring 14 of their own.

With Villa, however, he has a lot to sort out. The players are there and the likes of Phillipe Coutinho will be eager to get going with Emery.

On the other hand, they are sitting above the relegation zone by just three points and their goal difference means they could easily replace Leeds United in the bottom three if they lose here and other results go against them.

At the same time, they have scored just 11 goals so far in the Premier League, which is the joint-second fewest in the top flight of England, as only Bournemouth have scored fewer with 10.

Oddly enough, Villa returned to the win column immediately after the 3-0 loss to Fulham that saw them sack Gerrard within just one hour after the game.

The Midlands side schooled Brentford on home soil last time out, as Danny Ings netted two in his best performance of the season, while Ollie Watkins also scored, as Leon Bailey got his second goal of the season too.

Time will tell if this is just a case of the post-manger syndrome, or whether they are truly a team to be feared down in the bottom half. Regardless, it is no doubt going to take Emery some time to get going at Villa Park.

Newcastle are fourth right now after beating Spurs 2-1 and Everton 1-0 after drawing 1-1 with Manchester United. Forebet predicts them to win again with over 2.5 goals in the game.
