Liverpool seeking third consecutive PL win against Nottingham Forest

Liverpool are on a two-game Premier League winning streak and they conceded zero goals in those two fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are suddenly in form and head to the City Ground on Saturday for a lunchtime kick-off against Nottingham Forest. The Reds are fresh off back-to-back 1-0 wins against Manchester City and West Ham.

Liverpool should fancy their chances against Nottingham Forest, who are rooted in the relegation zone ahead of matchday No. 12. Forest took just two points from their last six games in the league.

Manager Steve Cooper did lead the team to two draws in their last three games. Those points could be massive if Nottingham Forest are to fight for Premier League survival.

Nottingham Forest and Liverpool played in the FA Cup last season, with the latter claiming a 1-0 win at the City Ground. Diogo Jota’s 78th-minute goal sent Liverpool to the win. The Reds went on to claim the FA Cup in May with a victory over Chelsea in a penalty shootout.

Liverpool are unbeaten in five of their last six games. Their back-to-back Premier League wins pushed them into seventh place. The Reds are just four points off the top four and 11 from first-place Arsenal.

Although Liverpool are not as strong as they were a season ago, it should be remembered that they were 12 points behind Manchester City at the midway point in the 2021-22 campaign.

Liverpool took 11 points from the last 18 on offer. The Reds have been great at home this season, but it is the road that has been a problem. Just two points from 12 were picked up by Klopp’s team. Liverpool have not won on the road and will try to claim a first road victory at the City Ground.

Cooper’s injury list is growing. He will be without defenders Omar Richards, Moussa Niakhate, and Jack Colback. Full-back Harry Toffolo is a major doubt to play, and Renan Lodi could be a game-time decision due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Lewis O’Brien could miss the game following an illness.

Klopp continues to have a long list of injuries. Forwards Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are out until after the World Cup break. Joel Matip remains out with a calf injury, but Joe Gomez’s brilliant recent form will keep him at centre-back.

Naby Keita and Arthur Melo are ruled out of the fixture. Darwin Nunez was brilliant against West Ham, as he scored a headed cross from Kostas Tsimikas. He was removed with the worry of a slight injury but should make the team. Ibrahima Konate could also return.

Klopp received a midfield boost as Curtis Jones was fit for selection against West Ham. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could play his first minutes of Premier League football on Saturday, as he nears a return.

Liverpool should post a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest. The Reds aren’t scoring a lot of league goals but should find the back of the net for a narrow victory once more.
