Paris Saint-Germain host Marseille in La Classique

Paris Saint-Germain will host Marseille in the latest edition of La Classique on Sunday in Ligue 1’s headline fixture of the weekend.

Both clubs dropped points on matchday 10 in Ligue 1, and a win on Sunday could improve one of these teams’ chances of winning the title.

Paris Saint-Germain are first in Ligue 1 with 26 points after 10 fixtures. They are just one point ahead of second-place Lorient in the standings. Marseille’s loss to Ajaccio a week ago left them in third place and three points back of PSG.

Christophe Galtier’s PSG have hit their first blip under the manager. The Parisians are winless in three straight matches.

A 1-1 draw with Benfica in the Champions League was followed by a nil-nil Ligue 1 result with Reims. Paris drew with Benfica once more in the Champions League in midweek 1-1.

Marseille defeated Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in the Champions League in midweek. Olympique played well, posting a second straight victory over the Portuguese club.

OM picked up 13 points from the last 18 points on offer in Ligue 1. They outscored their last six opponents 10-4.

Paris Saint-Germain won four of their last six games against Marseille in all competitions. Olympique won just one of their last six fixtures versus the Parisians. Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in four straight games versus Marseille.

Marseille manager Igor Tudor will likely be without full-back Sead Kolasinac. The full-back has a thigh injury which is likely to keep him out.

Paris Saint-Germain will be without Sergio Ramos due to a suspension. Ramos was sent off against Reims last weekend. Defender Nuno Mendes is likely to miss the game due to a hamstring injury.

Lionel Messi missed Paris Saint-Germain's last two matches in all competitions. He is nursing a calf injury and could miss the fixture with Marseille.

Midfielder Renato Sanches is likely to remain out of action following a groin strain, while defender Prisnel Kimpembe could miss the fixture.

Paris Saint-Germain have scored 28 goals this season while allowing five to opponents in 10 games. Marseille have been nearly as good scoring 20 goals and allowing seven to opponents.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe lead PSG in goals this season with eight apiece. The forwards will fancy a goal against PSG’s biggest opponents. If Messi doesn’t plan, PSG will have one fewer attacking option.

The Parisians should keep their unbeaten run against Marseille going, but their streak of draws in all competitions should continue. OM should claim a hard-fought draw at full-time as the match ends 1-1.
