Elche and Mallorca meet in La Liga six-point relegation match

Elche are at the bottom of the La Liga table ahead of round No. 8’s fixture against Mallorca. The Green Striped Ones have one point from seven games and go into the match on Monday night losers of five straight fixtures.

Mallorca are 12th in the league with eight points from seven games in La Liga. They are four points above the relegation zone. Monday night’s match is a six-point relegation fixture, as both teams are expected to finish in the bottom third of the table.

Of course, Elche are bottom of the table, so every game for them is a six-point relegation battle. These teams fought relegation last season and just survived the drop to the Segunda. Now, Elche and Mallorca are again fighting to get away from the drop.

Mallorca took seven points from the last 18 points on offer in the league. They lost 1-0 to Barcelona last weekend and are now winless in three of their last four matches. The Islanders scored six goals in their last six games while allowing eight goals to opponents.

Elche picked up one point from the last six games. Their last five fixtures all ended as defeats. Elche scored just three goals in their last six games while conceding 15 times to their last six opponents.

Four of the teams’ last six encounters finished as draws. Elche did take four points from Mallorca last season in two La Liga fixtures. The Green Striped Ones one at home 3-0 but drew 2-2 away at Mallorca. The majority of fixtures between these teams ended as stalemates, however.

Despite Elche’s excellent form against Mallorca last season, they are La Liga’s worst team in the opening stages of the current season. Mallorca will fancy their chances on the road.

Elche’s one point this season came at home, but their last two games ended as defeats. The Green Striped Ones have scored just two home goals this season.

Mallorca took four points from nine on the road this season. They have struggled to score goals as well. Just three goals were scored by Mallorca on the road, while four were conceded to opponents.

Elche’s Fidel and Pedro Bigas are both doubts to play on Monday night due to injuries. Midfielder Omar Mascarell has an Achilles injury and is currently set to miss out.

Mallorca’s Jaume Costa is out with a hip injury and won’t play the fixture. Forward Tino Kadewere has a muscle problem that will keep him on the sidelines. Goalie Dominik Greif is a doubt following an ankle problem.

Mallorca are a better side than Elche this season and should claim a win. The goals should flow as Mallorca pick up a 3-1 win against Elche on the road.
