It’s top against bottom in Champions League Group E on Wednesday, as high-flying AC Milan travel to London to face struggling Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Milan sit atop Group E – one point clear of second-place Dinamo Zagreb – after taking four points from a possible six.
At the opposite end of the standings, Chelsea find themselves rock bottom – three points behind Milan – having failed to register a UCL win this season.
The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Matchday 1, despite enjoying 69% possession and racking up 15 shots in Croatia.
On Matchday 2, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by RB Salzburg. On that occasion, they registered 73% possession and 17 shots.
Graham Potter’s side needed a 90th-minute winner from Conor Gallagher to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last time out, sealing back-to-back Premier League wins in the process.
It is worth noting that Chelsea have made an indifferent start to the Premier League season (W4-D1-L2), scoring ten goals while also conceding ten.
Funnily enough, Milan were also held to a 1-1 draw by Salzburg on Matchday 1 – despite registering 66% possession and 14 shots in Austria.
They bounced back with a dominant 3-1 victory over Dinamo on Matchday 2, however, thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Alexis Saelemekers and Tommaso Pobega.
The Italians head into Matchday 3 on the back of a 3-1 win against Empoli, meaning they have won three of their previous four Serie A outings.
Given that Milan have lost just one of their eight league matches this term, they will fancy their chances of getting something from Wednesday’s clash.
Head-to-head: Chelsea and Milan haven’t faced each other since the 1999-00 Champions League campaign. That season, they played out 0-0 and 1-1 draws.
The two sides have clashed on five occasions in all competitions over the years. Both teams have claimed one victory, while the other three games ended in a draw.
Team news: Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante, Marc Cucurella and Jorginho are all doubts for Chelsea as we head into Matchday 3.
Milan have a number of injury worries, too, with Alessandro Florenzi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Divock Origi, Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez set to miss Wednesday’s game.
Chelsea’s winless start to the Champions League campaign looks set to continue on Wednesday, with Milan expected to maintain their unbeaten start.
Forebet predicts that Chelsea and Milan will play out a low-scoring draw at Stamford Bridge, with both teams netting under 1.5 goals.
